A pub through most of the 19th Century, this establishment existed under a variety of names. The Shropshire Arms wa run by Oliver Snape- who previously kept the 'Crown'.It was taken over by the Ellesmere and Vyrnwy Brewery and renamed the Vyrnwy Arms. However, by the early 20th century, competition from the Bulls Head and the Horse and Jockey on either side had probably eroded the trade. In the 1911 census, it was listed as a private house and has been so since.
The brickwork on either side of the ground floor windows suggests that the size of these has been changed.
