In 1937 the premises were both a drapers and the Headquarters of the North Wales power Company. When Bradshaw Peake closed, the premises was redeveloped as a bank.Barclays
reduced their presence in Wem from a main bank to a part of a north-Shropshire grouping, and therefore did not need the large building at 20.The redevelopment involved
the introduction of dummy windows where none had previously existed. These were painted out when the branch wa re-decorated in 2016- a sure sign that it wa to close. In 2018, this happended,
with Barclays claiming that only 110 people used the branch. The quesues out the door suggested that their statistics were slightly dubious.
