The land, and all that up to the corner of Noble Street, was open land in 1830, and was owned by Mr Tiler. It was shown as having trees on it.
Similar fields backed it, and the only housing was what is now the antique shop in Noble Street. It was redeveloped, in conjunction with No 18,
as a new premises for Barclays Bank when they decided to move from No 20. Barclays closed in 2018, citing lack of customers. The queues nearly out of the door
suggested otherwise.
