| Born 1898, in Wem, son of William (a coal porter, born 1870, also in Wem) and Ellen Mary (born 1872 in Market Drayton) Garmston, of Wem, Shropshire. 1911 Census: John Garmston is living in Weir Cottage, Wem with his parents and sibling: George, a railway porter born in 1894 1901 Census: the family is living at 8, Aston Road, Wem and William Garmston's occupation is listed as 'labourer on coal wharf'. Other censuses identify William's parents as George (born 1834 in Loppington) & Charlotte (born 1841 in Myddle) Garmston. His grandparents were William (born 1801 in Harmer Hill) and Ann (ne้ Stanway, born 1801 in Myddle). The 1881 Census lists the residence as 44, Weir Lane, Wem and describes William Garmston as a farmer of 25 acres. | |
