Benjamin Thomas Baker, MM

Born in Tredington, Warwickshire on 24th April, 1908;
baptised on 2nd August, 1908, also at Tredington;
son of Richard (Master Tailor) and Bertha Baker.

1939 Register describes him as soldier on leave,
residing with his parents at Newbold on Stour, Warwickshire.

It is believed that he was resident in Shropshire at some stage during the war.

King's Shropshire Light Infantry, 4th Battalion, Acting Warrant Officer Class II (CSM), 4033836.
Awarded the Military Medal, North West European Campaign 1944-1945,
London Gazette - Publication Date: 19 Oct 1944.
Died 8th April, 1945, aged 36 years.
Casulty List No. 1741: Died of Wounds.
Cemetery: Hanover War Cemetery

The 4th (Territorial) Battalion, KSLI, landed in Normandy on the 14th June 1944,
and was involved in the action to isolate Caen and the elimination of the Falaise Pocket.
They were the first allied troops to enter the vital port of Antwerp;
crossed the Rhine on 28th March.
9th May, they were south of the Kiel Canal opposite Lubeck and heading for the Danish frontier.
