In 1830, the land behind this buiding was listed as belonging to a Mr Darlington, who also owned much of the land up to what is now Leek Street (then known as Dark lane).
No 3 belonged to a long established livestock auctioneers, Halls closed in the 1960s when the building was demolished along with the Talbot Hotel next door. A photograph can be seen in 'Shropshire Then and Now' (David Trumper 2011) to illustrate new developments- not always for the better! Today, the site of the building is a road leading up to the main town carpark and Town Square.Halls were not the only inhabitant. In 1934, Jack Birch ran his saddlers business from this address

New Developments

In 1970, following the demolition of Hall's office, and the closure of the cattle market, the whole area between the White Lion and Leek Street was redeveloped.(See photo below left) The area immediately behind the White Lion was used at first for a market and was then surfaced for use as a lorry park. In 2012, work started to build a Town Square on the site.Behind that, a small row of shops and a supermarket were built. The supermarket was initially owned by Morris' (See photo below right) but was then taken over by the West Midlands Coop. The change was accompanied by the development of a unit for the Post Office, with the main Post office in the High Street closing and, eventually, being redeveloped back to its former use- a public house!
